     Housing Services at KLM is a comprehensive program to help families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and put them on a path toward self-sufficiency.

Through a variety of foundations and government grants, Housing Services provides:

· Financial assistance with rent or mortgage

· Help finding affordable housing

· Case management

· KLM affordable homes or apartments

     Housing Services at KLM provides help in a variety of ways. The Shelter and Energy Assistance Program, funded by foundations and KLM, government grants, is geared to prevent homelessness and to help homeless families become self-sufficient. KLM Supportive Housing Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), provides housing subsidies and supportive services to homeless families. The Emergency Food and Shelter Program provides one month’s rent or mortgage for anyone who resides in Calhoun and Talladega County. There are no income restrictions for eligibility, but they must be legally responsible for the payment. The new Homes for School Children project is through KLM Housing Authority. Its goal is to quickly provide housing and intensive support to families with children in kindergarten through high school.

     The Program Requirements are:

1. For homeless families with school-age children – at least one adult and one child enrolled in kindergarten through senior in High School and…

2. the family is literally homeless according to HUD’s definition.

3. Child(ren) are enrolled in a school located in the Calhoun and Talladega County Service Area.

4. Family is willing to reside in Calhoun and Talladega County area.

5. Gross Annual Household income is below 50% Area Median Income.

6. No felonies within the past five years (HUD).
